![]() ![]() (Because, apparently, supporting the front end of a GPU is just too hard for anybody in the entire industry to figure something out in ATX 2.5, 3.0, or 3.1. My view's mostly if you want a GPU bracket which works well with a build then probably you're 3D printing or machining a bespoke solution. If you're committed to the 2 ☌ or so typical bottom fan arrangements might offer with a 3070 Ti then, yeah, Corsair's choice of a large footprint bracket won't compose with the fans and Fractal's stamping. OP's also looking at dual tower air but I'd agree Lancool III with top exhaust 360 rad's a good reference for entry level water.Īt high flow rates the Torrents might run a little quieter than the Lancools, airflow normalized, but I don't have anything up around 800 W or so to test with.Ĭlick to expand.Corsair's CC-8900683/8900684s are as overpriced and awkward as most GPU brackets but I don't see a reason they wouldn't fit in a Torrent. It's not admissible for the OP, however, as it doesn't accept E-ATX. In general I'd suggest North over Torrent Compact when considering Fractal, though the North has its own sets of limitations and tradeoffs and (at least for what I can buy) is only slightly less price uncompetitive with the Lancools. ![]() Additionally, the GP-18s and AL-18s are comparatively loud at their minimum RPM and thus unattractive to builds where noise at light load and idle is much of a concern. The full size Torrent seems more likely than not to downgrade from the Compact by adding cross sectional area while staying at 2x180, though I don't know of comparative fan-normalized and noise-normalized measurements with current hardware and sufficient quality to verify that. That does tend to make a difference of a couple three degrees between 2x180 and 3x120 in the Compact, partly due to Fractal's 120-140 mounts being something of an afterthought. As normal for fan operating points, there aren't 180s where 1x180 or 2x180 outperforms n+1 reasonably well chosen 120 or 140. The 180 mm fans on the the Torrents are a good marketing choice but functionally disadvantageous. The GPUs are also unresponsive to shroud or bottom fans, so decent chance anyone talking those up much is most likely running older hardware or neglecting to verify airflow assumptions with measurement. The lower resistance is particularly evident between the Lancool side intake (double sided in the III) versus the Torrent bottom intake, though the recent gen GPUs I've tested are competent to pull their own air and thus aren't particularly responsive to the difference. Click to expand.Having built and measured a couple Lancool IIs and a Torrent Compact, the basic functional tradeoff I see is Lian Li's mesh is lower flow resistance and thus also lower dust filtration than Fractal's nylon filters, stamping, and blades. ![]()
