![]() The different methodologies are proposed for on-tree detection and counting, identification of type and variety and post- harvest grading based on image processing and/ or machine learning approach. The samples are collected by conventional or smart phone camera from horticultural farm and GitHub database. Image processing is proven to be economical and efficient tool for on-tree detection, counting and post- harvest grading of fruits. Application of modern innovative and scientific tools in agriculture and minimization of human error, enhance the use of mathematical tool. The applicability of such technique is economically viable and easy to handle. ![]() Please feel free to print this pdf file for your own personal use. The grading of fruits is based on its matureness and intactness. You can also use the picture cards to practice identifying fruits and vegetables. Again, it is useful in post-harvest process such as classifying and grading of fruits according its variety and quality. The machine learning techniques with adequate concepts of image processing have a great scope to provide intelligence for designing automation system for detection and counting of fruits using on-tree images. One is based on conventional method, as naked eye observation and other is the use of mathematical tool of analysis, as image processing. There are two approaches for on-tree counting and classifying the fruits according to their kind and quality. So, it is required to impose automation system in the fruit industry for collection of fruits from the farm and grading of fruits according to its kind and quality. Because of human perception subjectivity: yield estimation, recognition and grading of fruits not done precisely. Again, Fruit classification is one of the major applications used in the supermarket to identify the type and variety of the fruits purchased by the customer and to generate the prices for it. Due to lack of skilled/trained workers, 30-35% of the harvested fruits are wasted. India is the second largest producer of fruits after China.
